Let’s go to NOLA and some history… The Wild Tchoupitoulas were a Mardi Gras Indian group led by Big Chief Jolly, blending Indian chants with funk and R&B. Their 1976 album, backed by The Meters and the Neville Brothers, introduced Mardi Gras Indian culture to a wider audience. bit.ly/4iJU3ncFifty years ago today, Paul McCartney released his album Venus and Mars with a concert on the Queen Mary, and even the celebrities on board stood in awe of one of the greatest legends of rock 'n' roll when he took the stage. Yes, Ernie K-Doe was there, showing the youngsters how it was done.

McCartney had recorded the album mostly at Allen Toussaint's Sea-Saint Studio in the winter of 1975, though he and Linda took time out to dress up as clowns on Mardi Gras Day. It was Sir Paul's first real look at the city, and he dug it.

When it was time to put out the record, he invited the Meters and Chocolate Milk--two of Toussaint's go-to studio bands--as well as Professor Longhair, Lee Dorsey, and K-Doe to perform on the Queen Mary. Solid line-up!
