Paul Christensen and the award winning Omega Productions crew were recently in Rocky Mount, North Carolina shooting a live DVD project for Malaco Records artist Luther Barnes. The concert was held at the Redd Budd Holy Church where Bishop F. C. Barnes is Senior Pastor. The event was held at the culmination of the 10th Annual North Carolina Fall Gospel Classic and featured performances by Luther Barnes & The Sunset Jubilaires, F. C. Barnes & Company, The Redd Budd Choir, Melvin Barnes, Debra Barnes and Mark Green Family & friends.
Luther Barnes has had a long and illustrious career in the Gopsel Music Industry. He has been regognized with numerous awards and accolades including a Vision Award presented by BET Network’s Bobby Jones Gospel Show and Gospel Today magazine – 1992; Stellar and GMWA Excellence Award nominations – 1998-2001; Truth Magazine Award for Best Traditional Male Vocalist of the Year – 2003; GMWA Excellence Award for Best Traditional Male Vocalist of the Year – 2003; Grammy Nomination for “Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album” 2004; Stellar Award for Traditional CD of the Year – 2005; Gospel Heritage Award – 2005; Mississippi Gospel Music Awards, National Male Lead Singer of a Group Award, National Male Lead Singer of a Choir Award, and Song of the Year Award – 2006. On October 22, 2005, Luther Barnes and The Sunset Jubilaires were inducted into the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Detroit, Michigan.
The crowd of devoted fans and seminar attendees were treated to an evening of high energy songs by Barnes, his father F. C. Barnes, and the other groups. Barnes, who served as MC for the concert, led the crowd on a musical journey delivering song after song on a stage bristling with energy and color.
Tommy Couch, Sr., CEO of Malaco Records served as Executive Producer along with Malaco’s Director of Gospel, D. A. Johnson . Luther Barnes produced the project, recording and subsequent CD. Paul Christensen served as Television and Live Event Producer bringing in the award winning Omega team of shooters, including Director Cary Goin. Ruthel Flunder assisted with talent and logistics. Rounding out Omega’s talented crew were Dan Townsend and Bob Warren on Hand Held Cameras, Thomas McDonald on Jimmy Jib and Mark Krempasky and Jim Lamm on Fixed Cameras. Jim Lamm also provided all of the behind the scenes and interview footage. Shayne Parden was Engineer in Charge (EIC). Chris Sullivan shaded the cameras and provided Video.
HMTV Group, Inc., Jacksonville, Florida, provided remote television facilities. Remote recording facilities were provided by Big Mo Recording Services, College Park, Maryland. Big Mo’s President and Chief Engineer, Greg Hartman, recorded the CD and DVD soundtrack, assisted by Chris Weal. Walden Sound Systems , Siler City, North Carolina, provided the Lighting and Sound Reinforcement, with the assistance of Bill Walden, President.
The staff of Omega Prductions have known Luther Barnes and his father, F. C. Barnes for many years and have followed their careers. To have the opportunity to work with them was a real honor.
